Parking
Mill Road car park is across the road from the main entrance.
Ticket Box
At the ticket box there is a hearing system, which is a fixed loop system.
Tickets
Carer receives free entry. Book one ticket on-line and request carer's ticket at ticket office. For 16s and under, the child has free entry and adult pays standard ticket price. Proof of disability or carer may be requested.
Accessible Toilets
Accessible Toilets are available on the ground floor inside the castle and in the gardens. There are also baby changing facilities available in these toilets.
Route from main entrance to gardens
This is a sloping roadway of approx. 500 m.
Entry into castle
There is a sloped entry into the castle building.
Main Lift
The main lift can be used for entry into and departure from the castle building. No help from staff needed to use the lift.
South Passage Lift
There is a Victorian lift, maximum width 24 inches (60cm), that help is required from staff to use. This gives access to the state rooms on the first floor but not the Castle Bedrooms on the second floor. The Victoria Bedroom is on the first floor.
Barons’ Hall Lift
We have a platform lift to negotiate three steps in the Barons’ Hall – staff assistance is required to use this lift.
Gift Shop
Within the castle, on the ground floor, has level entry and exit route.
Café
Light snacks, cakes and refreshments.
Gardens
The gardens have footpaths wide enough to take wheelchairs. The surface of them is gravel. There are moderate slopes that overcome the steps. The gardens have accessible male and female toilets.
Fitzalan Chapel
Access is by steep stone steps and there are also some steps within the Chapel.
Inner Gatehouse and the Keep
Access is by steep stone steps and spiral staircases.
History Man Tours
Whilst the introduction to the Moat & Rebuilding Castle Tours are accessible by all, visitors are required to be able to take steps down (with handrail and wide enough for a pushchair, but not a wheelchair, to be carried or wheeled down) into the moat for the remainder of the tour. Part of the Rebuilding Castle Tour is on gravel and crossed the wooden Drawbridge. The Pilgrim & First Seige Tours are partly on gravel surfaces. Whilst the Civil War Tour does involve steep slopes & steps the History Man is able to suggest an alternative route for those with mobility constraints that is mainly within earshot of the tour. Access to the Fitzalan Chapel is by steep stone steps and there are also some steps within the Chapel. To meet the History Man at the Stew Ponds & Antler Temple access is partly on gravel surfaces. Access to the Keep is by over 100 steep stone steps and spiral staircases.

- Assistance dogs are welcome. Please note that non-accredited/registered assistance dogs and emotional support/other support animals are not permitted.
- We have a motorised buggy that can help you get from the ticket box to the gardens and castle entrance.
- Wheelchairs and Motability scooters are allowed in the castle, with a width restriction of the Victorian lift being 24” (60cm).
- Wheelchairs are available for loan on a first come, first served basis, for use inside the castle.
